The battery is the heart of an electric scooter. Most of the batteries of electric scooters are lithium batteries. These are particularly durable.
Tip: A removable battery is ideal, as it can be charged in the house and can thus be protected from low temperatures in winter.
The range of most electric scooters up to 45 km/h is quite manageable. With an average of 60 km, however, it is conveniently sufficient for daily trips within the city. Some scooters have a range of only 40 km, for others, it can be up to 80 km. Keep this aspect in mind when buying.
There are major differences between the individual electric scooters with regard to the charging time of the batteries. This ranges from 4 hours for faster models to 8 hours for slower ones. The battery needs between 4 and 12 minutes per km range.
Electric motors with high efficiency
Efficiency refers to the proportion of energy expended that benefits the intended work. While combustion engines only have an efficiency of about 30 – 40 %, in the electric motor 90 % of the energy is actually converted into power.
Dimensions, weight, and maximum payload
The dimensions of most electric scooters are about the same. However, there are differences in weight. While the lightest e-scooters weigh around 90 – 100 kg, heavier models weigh an impressive 180 kg. You can usually load between 150 and 200 kg in weight.
The best electric scooters score with range and short charging time
The further the battery of an electric scooter takes you, the better. Therefore, especially the e-scooters perform well in tests that have a range of at least 60 km. In addition, many good e-scooters score with a fast charging time of their batteries, so that you can charge them, for example, during your working hours.
Electric scooter in the test: Not always the battery can be removed
Electric scooters differ in terms of the battery, among other things, in this point: On some models, you can remove the battery and charge it outside the scooter.
So you have the advantage of charging the battery while working in the office or at home in your apartment. In addition, you can protect it from low temperatures in winter by storing it indoors.
Good to know: Pay attention to the repair service when buying
Anyone who buys a new e-scooter usually does not immediately think about repairs. However, since e-scooters cannot be serviced in every workshop, you should pay attention to the manufacturer’s repair service when buying. For this purpose, many manufacturers publish lists of corresponding workshops on their websites. There are individual repairs that affect, for example, the tires, which can usually also be carried out by general mechanics. If you are familiar with motorcycles or motorcycle tires, you should also be able to help with electric scooters.
Well-known brands and manufacturers of e-scooters
If you have ever read about an e-scooter test or looked around in the trade, you will have noticed the range of electric scooters and electric scooters (or e-scooters) (small electric scooters without street approval) is growing. In the trade, you will find electric scooters as two-seaters, electric scooters with roofs,s or electric scooters with a retro look.
In addition to the electric scooters that resemble Vespas, there are (foldable) best electric scooters that represent a type of motorized scooter. These electric scooters for adults are also very popular, especially since some of these electric scooters are seated. For lovers of the classic Vespa, there is a Piaggio electric scooter on the market.
